Suspects found passed out, high on fake pot
PLAQUEMINE - With the help of a stolen device, deputies located two burglary suspects in a matter of hours.
"This particular case was easily put together," Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said.
Monday morning, deputies responded to a burglary at the Shintech facility on River Road.
Thieves broke into five cars and took smart phones, a GPS system, speakers and radios.
With no surveillance video and no immediate leads, detectives turned to the stolen devices for a push in the right direction.
"Some high tech tracking that allowed us to go right to these criminals that were involved in this burglary," Stassi said.
The alleged crooks were pinpointed to neighborhood in Iberville Parish. The pair were found passed out in a car together, high on synthetic marijuana, according to Stassi.
Police arrested Jerry Worthy, 21, and a 14-year-old.
Deputies charged both with simple burglary and possession of synthetic marijuana. Worthy is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The police report says all of the items were recovered, including a phone that was ringing in a pocket of clothing a suspect was wearing.
