Suspect, victim in Lorna Avenue shooting identified
BATON ROUGE - Baton Rouge Police identified the victim killed in a shooting Wednesday morning and arrested his suspected killer.
The body of Lenroy Marshall, 46, was found in the 12300 block of Lorna Avenue around 6:50 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators say he died from a gunshot wound.
Detectives arrested Jamie Mejia, 34, in connection with the shooting. Mejia told investigators he recognized Marshall as someone who had robbed him at an earlier date. That is when police say he walked-up to the victim with a handgun and shot him in the back as he ran away.
Mejia was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on 2nd Degree Murder and Illegal Use of a Weapon charges.
This was the seventh shooting in law enforcement responded to in Baton Rouge since the beginning of March. The violence spiked after a historically-calm February where no deadly shootings were reported.
