Suspect tied to one of a rash of early-December murders arrested
BATON ROUGE - A 25-year-old was booked into jail Wednesday on murder charges, arrested in connection with one of a series of shootings that spiked a crime wave at the beginning of the month.
Curtis Holland was arrested in the shooting death of Jordan Spears, 27. Police said Holland shot Spears on Sunday, December 2, on Stearns Street. Both men have addresses in the neighborhood, police said.
Detectives said the men had an argument and Holland shot Spears.
The shooting was the first in a series of so far unrelated killings from Sunday, December 2 into the middle of last week. The outbreak of violence followed a November crime wave where police warned criminals to stop the violence.
“...Y'all have our undivided attention," Chief Deputy Robert McGarner warned then.
A few weeks later, the gunfire erupted and left a handful of people dead. In the first week of December, city police and sheriff's deputies investigated murder cases.
