Suspect surrenders in murder investigation

BATON ROUGE - Police said the suspect in a murder from last month surrendered to investigators in Baton Rouge today.

Cpl. Tommy Stubbs with Baton Rouge Police said Areluas Myers, 22, turned himself in at the Violent Crimes Unit earlier today.

Stubbs said investigators received several tips Myers shot and killed Daniel Shaffer, 40, of Baton Rouge. Police found Shaffer shot in his vehicle in the 5200 block of Packard Street last month.

Investigators said Myers faces charges of first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and illegal use of a weapon. Stubbs said the investigation is still ongoing.
