Suspect shot by police out of the hospital
GONZALES - Police said a man shot after a confrontation with one of their officers this weekend is out of the hospital and on his way to jail.
Sgt. Steven Nethken with Gonzales Police said Daniel West, 33, was being interviewed by their detectives and deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office before being booked into the parish jail.
Investigators said West robbed a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint Sunday night, then stole his vehicle. Police said they chased West before he ditched the car and tried to flee on foot, and at the end of the chase he turned and pointed the gun at Sgt. Gary Ferrari who shot West in the neck.
Nethken said West will be charged by Gonzales Police with armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, and aggravated flight from an officer. Additional charges may be pending from the sheriff's office investigation.
