Suspect in Tupelo shooting shot and killed
JACKSON, MS- The man accused of shooting two Mississippi police officers during a robbery in Mississippi was shot and killed Saturday outside a Phoenix, Arizona bank he just robbed, according to the FBI.
Daniel McMullen, the FBI's special agent-in-charge for the Jackson, Mississippi office, said cell phone records confirm the suspect was in Tupelo, Atlanta and Phoenix.
Two Tupelo police officers, Sgt. Gale Stauffer and Officer Joseph Maher were shot after the robbery of a BancorpSouth Bank about 3:15 p.m. Monday.
Stauffer died and was buried Friday. Maher remains hospitalized, but officials say his condition is improving.
Surveillance photos show a man wearing the same jacket tried to rob a Bank of America branch in Atlanta Monday morning. After failing to get any money from a teller, the man demanded and received an undisclosed amount of money from someone who was using an ATM.
