BATON ROUGE - Texas Southern University Police arrested the suspect in the murder of former Southern running back Silas Gibbs Monday.

Police took Walter Jerome Fort, 22, into custody in Houston after a tip led them to a campus bus stop where Fort was sitting.

Fort initially gave a false name but his identity was confirmed through fingerprints and he was booked into the Harris County jail.

Sgt. Kelly says he will eventually be extradited back to Baton Rouge to be booked on second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon charges.

Silas Gibbs was found shot to death in a car Saturday near the Chippewa exit on South I-110.

Gibbs was a former Southern University running back and a father of two.
