Suspect in bank robbery arrested
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies caught up with a suspected bank robber in Tangipahoa Parish overnight who's accused of holding up an East Baton Rouge Parish bank earlier this week.
Deputies arrested 46-year-old William Mathis in Hammond Thursday night with the help of Livingston and Tangipahoa Parish deputies. He's accused of robbing the Regions Bank at 2121 O'Neal Lane in Baton Rouge Wednesday.
Investigators said a tip called in Thursday led them to identify Mathis as their suspect. Another tip led authorities to his location in Tangipahoa Parish Thursday night.
Detectives booked Mathis into the Tangipahoa Parish jail as a fugitive from East Baton Rouge Parish. He'll be transferred to face first degree robbery charges there later.
