Suspect identified in deadly shooting, crash
BATON ROUGE - Police identified an Alexandria man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting last night in Baton Rouge.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said Ruben Van Dyke, 30, was wanted for his involvement in the death of Brannon Counts, 32.
McKneely said Counts was shot in the parking lot of 5701 Hollywood Street just after 5 p.m. Thursday. Investigators said the shooting came during a fight over a drug deal.
Counts fled the scene in a car and wrecked into the backyard fence of a nearby home, which is where police found him. They said he died at the scene.
McKneely said Van Dyke was last seen fleeing the area in a white convertible Chrysler Sebring with a black roof. Anyone with information about his location or the shooting should call the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869.
