BATON ROUGE - Louisiana State Police captured the suspect accused of trying to run over a trooper early Friday morning.

Police found Jakarta Carter Jones, 35, at a Baton Rouge motel and was brought in for questioning.

Investigators say Jones led a trooper on a chase through the Valley Park area in Baton Rouge.

State Police say a trooper was on duty around 2 a.m. when he witnessed a vehicle leaving a gas station on College Drive.

According to an LSP spokesperson, Jones was driving erratically which warranted an official police stop.

The suspect fled, and a chase ensued.

Police say that Jones led troopers through Valley Park before they ended up in a field, where officials say the driver's vehicle spun around and came to a stop.

The trooper then exited his vehicle to approach the driver, when police say the vehicle gained traction and started driving toward him.

That's when the trooper fired at the suspect, who fled the scene.

Investigators located the abandoned vehicle two blocks away.
