Suspect arrested in fatal French Quarter shooting
NEW ORLEANS - Police say a 23-year-old man has been booked with second-degree murder following a shooting in the French Quarter.
In a news release, police say detectives learned during their investigation that the unidentified victim and a 30-year-old friend were allegedly attempting to purchase drugs early Thursday morning from William Richardson IV. Once inside their vehicle, police say Richardson attempted to rob the pair. They say a shot was fired striking the victim in the jaw. He died a short time later at the hospital.
Police say Richardson and the 30-year-old male struggled inside of the vehicle until police arrived.
The victim's name will be released by the coroner following an autopsy.
Online jail records do not list an attorney for Richardson.
