METAIRIE (AP) - Sheriff's deputies in Louisiana have arrested a suspect in the shooting and wounding of an officer at a hotel last weekend.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said in a news release that 38-year-old Tyrone Louis has been arrested.

Lopinto planned to release more information later Tuesday.

Investigators said 34-year-old Deputy Christopher Haislup was shot and wounded Sunday when he responded to a disturbance at a hotel in Metairie.

Haislup has been with the sheriff's office for 11 years.

He was last reported in stable condition at University Medical Center and was expected to undergo surgery to correct his leg injury.

News outlets reported when officers escorted Louis out of the hotel to question him, he began running and pulled a gun and fired several shots at the deputies.
