BATON ROUGE - The Southern University Police Department is investigating a video that caused a frenzy on social media.

The video shows several groups of people engaging in what looks like separate brawls and one man holding up what appears to be a gun and firing several shots into the air.

Sources told News Two's Jessica LeBlanc the incident took place right outside dorms.

Some are speculating that the entire thing is a hoax, but university officials said whether it was a joke or not, it's not good.

"You hurt our alumni and you hurt Southern University's image," said Ed Pratt, the director of media relations at the school.

Tiara Syria is a student who lives in the dorms near where the incident happened and she said it's surprising.

"I mean you just never know. Bullets could fly from anywhere. It doesn't have a name. Who's to say that it wouldn't go through my window or anyone else's," said Syria, a junior at the school.

According to Southern officials, if the shooter of what appears to be a gun, is identified and found to be a Southern student, that person could face criminal charges and maybe even expulsion.

Officials said they are taking the incident seriously and will continue the investigation.
