The Sunshine Bridge in Ascension Parish is closed in both directions after a crash involving an 18-wheeler and an SUV.

State Police say the 18-wheeler was hauling ammonia and is reportedly on fire. A hazardous materials response team is standing by and law enforcement set up a perimeter around the wreckage.

So far, there are no evacuations.

State Police say the driver of the SUV has life-threatening injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler is also hurt.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
