LAFAYETTE- More than two months after kindergartner La'Derion Miller was killed in a school bus accident, his parents have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the Lafayette Parish School Board and bus driver Harold Thibeaux.
The 6-year-old La'Derion died from head injuries on March 14. He was waiting with a young relative, who safely boarded the bus. When La'Derion attempted to enter, sheriff's deputies have said the door closed, his jacket became caught in the door of his school bus and he was dragged down rural Duhon Road.
No criminal charges have been filed in the accident.
Schools spokeswoman Angie Simoneaux tells The Advertiser that Thibeaux has been on leave with pay since the accident.
She said the school system had not been served with the lawsuits as of Wednesday afternoon.
