PORT ALLEN - Cane harvest season is underway, which means drivers need to be aware of added dangers on the road.
Slow-moving trucks and farm equipment will be more present on local highways as the cane is taken to mill. Farmers often use signs to warn motorists in locations where trucks enter the highway.
Alan Gustin farms about 2,000 acres off Rosedale Road between Port Allen and Grosse Tete. He says drivers need to slow it down during harvest season.
Gustin says many accidents could be avoided if drivers' attention stays on the road.
