SU Jags prepare to head west for SWAC title showdown
BATON ROUGE - The Southern Jaguars football team is headed west to Houston Thursday with a gridiron meeting with the Alcorn Braves for the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship set as the final destination.
This is Southern University's second year heading to the SWAC championship. Many fans came out to support the Southern football team as they loaded up their gear to head to The Lone Star State this afternoon. Officials say last year was one the most highly attended championship games for Division 1 football with about 40,000 people in attendance. It is widely speculated that this game will be an even bigger draw.
"Ticket sales have been going very strong," said Dr. Williams Broussard, SUBR Athletic Director. "Every time we look up, there's another section that's sold out."
