SU board refuses to declare financial emergency
The Board of Supervisors at Southern University. have shot down an effort to declare a state of financial emergency.
The Board voted 6-6 after faculty and students spoke out against approving a financial exigency.
Southern's administration had hoped to get 90 percent of the faculty members to agree to take voluntary furloughs in order to balance the budget.
Only about 60 percent of the faculty agreed.
The annual budget for the campus is due to the Board of Regents on Tuesday afternoon.
