A study done for "Keep Louisiana Beautiful" says state and local governments in Louisiana spend an
estimated $40 million a year to clean up litter.
Keep Louisiana Beautiful says litter is an avoidable and costly problem for taxpayers.
The survey found that one-third of the cost of roadside mowing involves picking up litter before and after workers cut grass.
Applied Technology Research of Baton Rouge conducted the study for the non-profit group.
