Student caught with gun at McKinley
BATON ROUGE - School Drug Task Force members arrested a McKinley High School Friday after investigators said he was caught with a gun on campus.
The task force was called to the school at 11:00 a.m. after reports of a student acting suspiciously. Officers found a loaded .380 handgun in the backpack of a 16-year-old boy.
Investigators said the boy told them he brought the gun for protection, though school officials said no threats were reported.
The boy was booked into Juvenile Detention on charges of illegal possession of a firearm on a school campus and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
