BATON ROUGE - City officials are preparing for a meeting tomorrow where they will seek public input on a proposed streetcar line.

The streetcar would run from the LSU campus to downtown Baton Rouge through Nicholson Drive.

"I think it would work very well," said Robert Luke, who works near campus.

According to Davis Rhorer, Exec. Director of the Downtown Development District, it's an economic investment local businesses would reap major benefits from.

"This type of thing drives the economy for so many other things to happen," said Rhorer. "Another means to get downtown to conduct business, or if you want to go to any type of cultural, academic or sporting event at LSU."

The project is estimated to cost around $100 million. City officials say they plan to finance most of it through federal funds.

Tomorrow's public meeting will take place at the River Center from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
