Streamlining commission recommends furloughs
The Louisiana Commission on Streamlining Government Commission approved a plan asking state agencies to consider more furloughs.
Commission members say thousands of state employees often take days off before or after a holiday. State Representative Jim Morris says that can cost the state $16 million dollars a day. He recommends state agency heads consider furloughs instead.
Furloughs are unpaid days off often used to deal with budget problems. This recommendation and others will be sent to the legislature and the governor for consideration.
