Store worker cited in ambulance booting
NEW ORLEANS - A man was issued a citation by the New Orleans Police Department for simple criminal damage to property after a New Orleans EMS ambulance was fitted with a disabling boot on Friday.
WWL-TV reports Ahmed Sidi Aleywa was an employee of Mr. Quicky's convenience store.
Paramedics had parked in front of the business while responding to a call that a man had a life-threatening medical issue inside.
According to the police report, Aleywa told officers he didn't realize he had booted an ambulance and doesn't speak English.
After the boot was removed, a tire was flat, forcing paramedics to call another ambulance to pick up the patient.
Signs in the store's parking lot warn parking is for customers only and that the store will boot other vehicles.
