Stolen safe recovered after church heist
ROBERT- Sheriff's deputies have recovered a stolen safe related to a burglary at a church in this small Tangipahoa Parish community.
Deputies have apparently found the mangled box, according to ActionNews17.com. The church's pastor said the vault is destroyed. A picture he released to the site shows it in bad shape; smashed and dirty.
The safe was swiped Monday morning from Crossgate Church. Empty, it weighs close to 100 pounds Louis Husser, the pastor, said. But, it was filled with donations and the prior Sunday's offerings.
"They knew exactly where it was," he said.
Among the few thousand dollars in the safe, some of it was from a vacation bible school fundraiser for missionaries in the Philippines.
There was no word of any arrests, although Husser told the WBRZ news partner investigators are developing leads.
"It will be a good lesson in forgiveness for the kids," Husser said.
It was not clear where the safe was found.
