Still-changing C-USA bigger at 14 teams for 2013
IRVING, Texas - North Texas coach Dan McCarney knows there are 14 teams this season in Conference USA, his team's new league.
As for exactly who they are, McCarney chuckled Wednesday and said he was trying to piece it all together.
Conference USA has six new members this fall, including the Mean Green. The league got bigger even with the departures of four teams to the Big East, whose football members later became the American Athletic Conference.
First-year Southern Miss coach Todd Monken said Wednesday at C-USA media day that "if you're involved with coaching football, you're in the ever-changing landscape of conference affiliation."
Three C-USA teams are in their final seasons in the league, but two will be added next year and C-USA will be back to 14 teams by 2015.
