Steve Gleason to be honored by MDA
NEW ORLEANS - Former Saints safety Steve Gleason will be honored at a Wall Street benefit to raise money for research into cures and treatment for muscular dystrophy and ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Gleason, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2011, will receive the 2013 Spirit Award. The award is given to someone who demonstrated extraordinary commitment to ending ALS by raising awareness, advocating for funding, and promoting research for a cure.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association's 13th Annual Wings Over Wall Street will be Sept. 26 in New York. This year's event is expected to bring the total raised by the benefit to $10 million.
