BATON ROUGE- The holiday season is usually the time where people get too busy to exercise.

If that's you, think about this. Every workout missed is used against you.

It is used against you to make your belly bigger, your muscles smaller and weaker, and your life shorter.

Unfortunately, most Americans choose to not consistently exercise, and it's because they don't stay motivated.

Fitness expert Gabe MIller, owner of LA Boxing gives us tips on how to stay motivated this holiday season and through the New Year.

"There are a couple things that play into keeping you stay motivated. For one, when your getting into a fitness routine, you need to revisit the past. Find out what didn't work for you on your last fitness weight loss program and fix it," said Miller.

Miller advises to make it fun. Try different workout routines that are not your typical gym membershi like fitness classes.

There are several in the Baton Rouge area such as Zumba, Spin class, step aerobics' class, and even kickboxing.

Other ways to stick with a workout routine is to make a friendly bet, or sign up for a distance race.

Whatever it is make sure you are having fun and it's something you want to do. If it's not fun, you won't stick with it.

Another way to stay motivated is to blackmail yourself. Take a picture of yourself shirtless and email it to a trusted friend or family member.

If you don't send a new picture showing some sort of improvement within 12 weeks tell the family member or friend to post the picture to a website called hotornot.com or tell them to post it to facebook.

That's a bit extreme but the thought of someone posting a picture of you online will keep you motivated to get in shape.

When you try these different workout routines, make realistic goals. Also measure your progress. There's nothing more motivating than seeing tangible results.
