States get online gambling go-ahead from feds
BATON ROUGE- The federal government is giving the thumbs up to online gambling tonight, but it's up to states to take the next step in expanding the business or not.
The Justice Department says a 50-year-old law does not prohibit Internet gaming. Online sports betting is still off the table. At least three states are already moving to create, or change local laws to open up online gaming and Internet lottery sales.
But Louisiana likely won't be one of them. The governor says the state needs to learn to break even and not create another outlet for spending by expanding gambling. But people say Louisiana should try its hand because it will offer more chances.
