BATON ROUGE - Below is a statement WBRZ recieved just moments ago from Anna Edwards, daughter of former Governor Edwin Edwards. It addresses the events this morning surrounding his release from Oakdale Federal Prison.
"My father, Edwin Edwards, has been released from federal prison after 8 years 2 months and 21 days. He was released at 5 o'clock this morning. He arrived at Ecumenical House at approximately 8:30a.m. After doing all required paperwork and getting all instructions he was released to home confinement for a period of 6 months. During is home confinement he will have no contact with the press. After home confinement he will be on 3 years probation and subject to the rules and regulations of the federal probation office. He will certainly follow all rules.
Dad is well and very much looking forward to starting a new chapter in his life. This is a very happy yet emotional day for my family. Many thanks to everyone who has offered continuing support and well wishes during his incarceration.
I will continue to release all information as it becomes available.
