State troopers honored at award ceremony
BATON ROUGE - State Police troopers from around Louisiana were recognized for their service and for putting their lives on the line of duty on Thursday.
A number of state troopers received awards for their roles in saving people's lives, seizing large amounts of narcotics and bringing in high DUI arrest counts. Trooper Kevin Cefalu from Mandeville was honored as Trooper of the Year for making 155 DWI arrests last year, bringing the total number of DWI arrests he's made to more than 900.
State superintendent Michael Edmonson said this is his favorite part of the job.
"We awarded those today who became extraordinary, and I think that's what its all about what can you do for those who do nothing for you," said Edmonson. "That was exemplified here whether it was my troopers that made a little bit more attention here in this area based on a burglary, a theft, a murder or an investigation".
