State Trooper rear-ended by suspected drunk driver
GONZALES - A Gonzales man is arrested for drunk driving after he rear-ended and injured a state trooper on I-10 near Gonzales.
It happened east of LA Hwy 44 around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Investigators say State Christopher K. Morris, 46, smashed into a patrol car on the side of the interstate when he tried to pass a vehicle on the shoulder of the road. They also say he was driving with a 13-year-old in his passenger seat when he crashed into the cruiser.
Troopers say the officer was patrolling traffic on the shoulder of the road and believe Morris may have been driving drunk.
Investigators say the trooper, Morris and the juvenile were all sent to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
After he is treated for his injuries, officials say Morris will be arrested and booked into Ascension Parish jail for mutliple charges including driving while intoxicated, vehicular negligent injuring, careless operation, driving under suspension, and open container.
