State to help in finding post-spill employment

The Louisiana Workforce Commission will have four mobile units helping people with employment problems stemming from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The units will be open Saturday and Monday in St. Bernard, Lafitte, Grand Isle and Cut Off, followed by additional services Tuesday through Friday.

Starting Tuesday and running through Friday, a fifth mobile unit will be running in Port Sulphur.

The Workforce Commission says a range of services will be offered, including assistance with applying for potential jobs that may be offered due to the oil spill.

Locations and schedule beginning Saturday:

  • St. Bernard: Islenos Museum, 1345 Bayou Road, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Lafitte: 2654 Jean Lafitte Blvd., adjacent to Town Hall, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Grand Isle: Community Center, 3811 Louisiana Highway 1, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cut Off: Lafourche Parish Library, 16241 E. Main St., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Beginning Tuesday:

  • Port Sulphur: St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 28698 Highway 23, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
