NEW ROADS- State investigators filed a handful of subpoenas in court this week seeking financial information from multiple institutions pertaining to the credit card purchases of Mayor Robert Myer.

Myer is charged with malfeasance in office and abuse of power. The state wants bank records after it couldn't account for thousands of dollars.

The state investigation by the Inspector General revealed Robert Myer used the city's credit card for personal use. From January 2011 to December of 2014, it was determined Myer charged a total of $165,777 to his City of New Roads Credit Card. The Mayor wrote $9,527 in reimbursement checks to the City of New Roads, but that wasn't enough. It's estimated at least $2,000 wasn't paid back.

According to court subpoenas, Myer was in a sexual relationship with the financial director at the time. Investigators believe that may have impacted how much he needed to pay back to the city after they reviewed the credit card expenses together.

"If you do the crime, you should pay the penalty," New Roads resident Jason Cador said.

Some of the questionable charges included dinners, movie tickets, a mattress from a bedding store and laser tag.

Myer is currently scheduled to go to trial in January.
