State sales tax exemption on hurricane items begins Saturday
BATON ROUGE - It's a tax free weekend for Louisiana residents interested in purchasing hurricane supplies on Saturday and Sunday.
The state sales tax holiday kicks off at 12:01 a.m. Saturday morning and comes to a close at 11:59 p.m. Sunday night.
"This is a good opportunity for the state to show that it's trying to take care of its people and let them stock up on things that they need," said hardware store clerk, Paul Scott.
The tax exemption applies to the first $1,500 of the purchase price of each item. Local taxes apply unless specifically exempted by local taxing authorities.
Batteries, coolers, and weather radios are just some of the items Louisiana residents can purchase at a lower rate.
