State police: Speed factor in fatal motorcycle crash
BRAITHWAITE - Authorities say a New Orleans firefighter died when he lost control of his motorcycle, hit a sign and then struck a culvert.
Trooper Melissa Matey says 25 year-old Corey Smith of New Orleans died from injuries suffered in Sunday afternoon's accident on Louisiana Highway 39 in Plaquemines Parish.
Matey said Smith was traveling at a high rate of speed when he was ejected. Smith was taken to Ochsner Medical Center Westbank where he was pronounced dead.
She says Smith was wearing a helmet.
