BATON ROUGE - More than 170 men make up the Louisiana State Police trusty program - a program that has come under harsh scrutiny from both the public and those charged with running it after two men escaped last month.
Louisiana State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson said in the weeks since the escape he's reviewed the program "from top to bottom" to determine how it could have happened. Bottom line, he says, it happened because of human error.
Edmonson tells The Advocate that he's made changes to close gaps in the program's security with more changes to come after an internal investigation is finished.
