State police on the look out for drunk drivers
BATON ROUGE - State troopers have been hitting the streets after a busy saturday filled with parade festivities.
State police say they've worked a number of crashes one including a three-car wreck on Nicholson Drive that involved an alleged drunk driver.
But the one that gained the most attention was when one of their own state troopers was sent to the hospital after being hit by an alleged drunk driver.
According to arrest records in East Baton Rouge parish at least 20 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated this weekend. In addition to that, state police say they've also arrested six people on roadways since saturday evening for allegedly driving drunk.
"You know we do tend to see a rise in the amount of impaired drivers out there...the holiday season a lot of people are going to be driving on the roadways," said State trooper Jared Sandifer. "You know we want people to have fun and be smart about it and always have a plan in place to get home and don't drive if you're impaired."
If you suspect someone of drunk driving you can dial star 577 or call your local law enforcement agency.
