LAKE CHARLES - State Police said a nearly year-long investigation led to the recent arrest of 24 individuals on drug-related charges in southwest Louisiana.

Law enforcement officals said the investigation, called "Operation 27" because one principal suspect had been arrested 26 times before, was a joint effort between Louisiana State Police, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, Lake Charles Police Department, ICE, DEA, and the Calacasieu Parish District Attorney's Office.

Police said investigators determined 39-year-old Hayward Lecompte was the principal supplier of cocaine in the Lake Charles area and the largest drug wholesaler in Lake Charles. The investigation revealed an additional source of large quantities of cocaine being smuggled into southwest Louisiana from the southeast Texas region which will result in the arrests of additional individuals, according State Police.
