BATON ROUGE - State Police say a Gonzales man drove himself to the police station while drunk, where he was arrested for DWI.

Troopers say Patrick Ruffner, 31, went to the station to fill out a crash report after he was involved in a hit and run crash on I-10 near Siegen Lane.

Ruffner arrived at the police station at around 3:45am Saturday. State police say when Ruffner arrived, he appeared to be drunk.

Officials say the officer Ruffner intended to give the crash report to gave him a field sobriety test, which he failed. He then admitted to consuming alcohol before driving himself to the police station.

Police also found out that Ruffner was driving with a suspended license and arrived at the police station in a different car then the one he was driving during the hit and run.

Ruffner is charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.
