State Police identify victims in Clinton double murder
CLINTON - Louisiana State Police have identified the victims of a double murder that happened in Clinton Sunday afternoon.
The victims are 46-year-old Kem Smith of Clinton and 39-year-old Clifton Cowan, Jr. of Zachary.
East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s deputies and State Police reported the arrest of 31-year-old Eric Sanders for two counts of first degree murder Monday afternoon. The morning arrest followed the discovery of the bodies of Smith and Cowan in a residence on LA 10 near Clinton Sunday afternoon.
The investigation revealed that Smith and Cowan were boyfriend and girlfriend. As detectives probed the matter further, they developed Sanders as a suspect, learning in the process that Sanders is the ex-husband of the female victim.
State Police have yet to release details about how the suspected double murder was carried out.
