State Police: driver speeding before deadly Basin Bridge crash
WHISKEY BAY- Investigators said Monday, the driver blamed in a deadly crash where her vehicle toppled over the I-10 Basin Bridge and into the swamp below, was speeding.
State Police believe Lois Rudd, 24, was driving too fast when she flipped her SUV and it rolled over the guard rail. The interstate was closed overnight Friday while emergency crews worked the scene.
An adult passenger was killed. Five children, also in the vehicle, were hurt. One was in serious condition.
After being treated at a hospital, Rudd was charged with negligent homicide, 5 counts of negligent injury and careless operation.
Rudd was from out-of-town.
