State leaders disagree on next step after health care ruling

BATON ROUGE- Governor Jindal says Louisiana will not implement any of President Obama's health care plans, while others called for the state to start working on the reforms.

Jindal says his focus will be on helping the GOP defeat President Obama in November and repeal the entire plan.  He says the courts call states sovereign, while taking away their abilities to enforce their rights.

That is not the response some Democratic leaders were hoping for.  State Representative Ted James, D-Baton Rouge, hoped there would be instant activity putting the steps in place to participate in the health insurance exchange.  He accuses the governor of putting his national political ambitions ahead of the needs of people in Louisiana.

26 states have opposed the health care expansion.  The federal government covers the costs for the first three years.  States would start contributing in 2017.
