State lawmakers make plans for BP grant
$25 million from a BP grant will be spread among 12 coastal parishes and Grand Isle under a budget amendment approved by the Louisiana House of Representatives.
The amendment is authored by Representative Sam Jones. He says Louisiana received the grant about a month ago but has just been "sitting on it." The amount local governments receive will be based on how much the spill has impacted them. Coastal areas would only be able to use the money for spill related issues.
The Jindal administration released a statement saying there are already plans for some of the money. A statement from the administration claims $9.5 million is obligated for state agencies. The Department of Public Safety will be in control of the remaining $16.5 million to give tp other agencies for oil spill response costs.
