BATON ROUGE- State Representative Dee Richard, I- Houma, says lawmaker need to call a special session before the end of the year.

Richard says the legislature needs to be more involved in recent decisions about the budget. Lawmakers have criticized Governor Bobby Jindal's plans to close Phelps Correctional Center, saying they were not given enough information.

Jindal said closing Phelps and moving inmates to other state facilities will save $12 million per year. According to Jindal, lawmakers in areas impacted by budget cuts have been kept in the loop.

Richard admits it will be difficult to get approval for the special session, but if he does he hopes it will take place in November.
