BATON ROUGE - State Representative Paul Hollis (R-Covington) says if you live in an area that does not use red light cameras, you should not have to pay fines.

He has filed a bill for the upcoming session to make it law. Hollis says drivers with a car registered in St. Tammany Parish, for instance, should be exempt from paying a red light camera or speed van citation issued in areas like Baton Rouge or New Orleans. He thinks the actions of those communities should not be forced on drivers from other areas.

Drivers we spoke with had mixed opinions. Some said Hollis' bill eliminates some of the safety improvements made because of the cameras. Others agree with the lawmaker, saying the cameras should be banned.

The 2013 Louisiana Legislative Session begins in March.
