Some families of Louisiana National Guard troops will get $250,000 dollars in benefits from the state. State lawmakers finalized the plan today for five families. It applies for soldiers killed on or after July 7th, 2007. The state benefits will be in addition to federal benefits...including military life insurance. They will also apply if the troops are killed after being called up by the governor for things like hurricane clean up or security. The first payments should go out next week.
