State employees could get pay raises next year

BATON ROUGE- Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration has opened the door for pay raises for some state employees in the next fiscal year.

Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater says agencies aren't getting money to pay for salary boosts, but they can give raises if they can find savings in their budget to pay for them.

Most state employees have not received a pay raise in the past two years and some for three years.

At the urging of Jindal, the Civil Service Commission for two years has withheld 4 percent annual raises that most classified employees received based on job evaluations. Jindal also blocked the raises for unclassified employees.

For the upcoming 2012-13 year, Rainwater says there will be no request to the Civil Service Commission.
