Federal charges added for DCFS director
BATON ROUGE - The Department of Justice filed federal charges today against a DCFS audit director already facing state-level charges he misused department funds.
U. S. Attorney Walt Green filed a bill of information to charge Delrice Augustus with federal program fraud. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and other restitution.
Augustus already faces theft and malfeasance charges in Louisiana after investigators said he racked up $30,000 in expenses over a two-year span. Authorities said Augustus admitted to using purchase cards for movies, TV sets, and numerous electronics like iPads and laptops. Investigators said Augustus even purchased a dishwasher and had it delivered to his home.
The federal bill of information claims Augustus' actions also stretched between 2010 and 2014, and used federal funds.
