The Louisiana Department of Revenue says its online sales tax collection service has taken in more than $1 billion in state and local sales and use taxes.

Known as Parish, the free web application lets businesses file returns and remit those taxes online.

The application was launched in August 2008.

Through the site, $830 million has been sent to parish and local governments and the state has received about $240 million.
