State asks for inspection of cavern near sinkhole
BAYOU CORNE- State and parish leaders have asked Texas Brine to investigate the conditions inside a cavern near the salt brine operation that failed two years ago and caused the infamous sinkhole in Assumption Parish.
Equipment has recorded an increase in seismic activity that appears to be centered around the eastern wall of the failed cavern.
Scientists said the order is just a precaution, since the issue has not escalated.
The company said it will comply with the order.
